V16 Training · Quality and Inspections · Lesson 5 of 6
Tie in the Request For Sample result
This lesson shows how to carry what an approved sample said into the inspection of the goods that arrive: read the sample's specification and price, compare it with your inspection template, and inspect against it.
Written guide
The idea
A Request For Sample records what the supplier's sample looked like and what it was quoted at. When the real goods arrive, an inspection checks them against limits. Make those limits come from the approved sample. Parsimony does not link the two with a button; you tie them by item, supplier and project.
The screens use example data from a demo company that buys engineered oak flooring.
Step by step
Step 1. Open the Request For Sample
- Open the request for the supplier and project. Here: engineered oak from Kalmar Engineered Woods, for the Wexler Hotel project, status received.

Step 2. Read the sample
- On Sample Detail, read Product Specifications: Thickness 14 mm, Plank width 7 in, Moisture content 6 to 9%, Surface finish Matte, Colour approved.

Step 3. Read the price
- On Supplier Sample Detail, Price Quote holds the FOB Point (Gothenburg) and FOB Price USD (68.13). FOB means free on board.
- Check FOB Unit Of Measure. It is empty here, so confirm the unit.
- Factory photos go in Factory Sample Pictures; none yet in this example.

Step 4. Compare your inspection template
- Open Engineered Oak Plank. Thickness 13.5 to 14.5 surrounds the sample's 14; width 6.9 to 7.1 surrounds 7; moisture 6 to 9 matches; Matte and Match are accepted values.

Step 5. Inspect against it
- On the inspection for the arriving oak, the template fills the parameters. Type each measurement under Reading 1.

What you may see on your own site
- The Request For Sample has no button that opens a quality inspection. You do the matching by choosing the template.
- Your sample may carry a Sample Template, photos and a unit; this example does not.
Common mistakes
- Looking for a button. There is none.
- Using a template that does not match the approved sample.
- Trusting a price with no unit.

2. The sample says thickness 14 millimeters. The template runs 13.5 to 14.5. A reading of 14 gives what?
3. What should you check next to the FOB price?
