Agents / AI chat agents

An AI chat agent for business, trained on your answers.

It reads the documents you upload and the website you paste, answers customer questions on your site and messaging channels, books the call or opens the ticket, and hands off to a person with the whole conversation attached. Self-serve from $97 a month with a 15-day free trial.

01 / Sample conversation

Order status, then a handoff.

A scripted sample, not a live session. It shows the two things a chat agent has to do well: look up a real record and know when to stop.

  • The order lookup reads the fulfillment system at answer time.
  • The tracking link is an action the agent is allowed to take.
  • The address change is not. It hands off with the order number attached.
  1. Customer

Hi, I placed order #4821 last week. Where is it?

  2. Agent

Order #4821 shipped on Monday by FedEx and is in transit. The carrier estimates delivery tomorrow by 8 PM. Do you want the tracking link?

  3. Customer

Yes please. And can I change the delivery address?

  4. Agent

The tracking link is in your inbox. Address changes have to be made by the fulfillment team, and only while the package is still at the regional hub. I can hand this conversation to them now with the order number and your request attached. Shall I?

Figure 1. Sample conversation: website chat, order lookup, tracking link sent, address change handed off.

02 / What it learns from

Your content. Your records. Not a generic model.

The agent answers from what you give it. Six kinds of source, loaded once and refreshed on a schedule, so every answer is yours and current.

  1. 01

    Your website

Every product, service, and policy page, re-crawled on a schedule you set.

  2. 02

    Documents and PDFs

SOPs, manuals, price lists, warranty terms, and onboarding guides.

  3. 03

    Help center and FAQs

Existing support articles and question-and-answer pairs your team already wrote.

  4. 04

    CRM and ERP records

Live order status, inventory, customer history, and open tickets, read at the moment of the question. ERP-connected agents are a larger deployment, scoped separately.

  5. 05

    Workflows

The actions the agent is allowed to take: create a lead, book a slot, open a ticket, send a link.

  6. 06

    Transcripts and recordings

Past chats, call transcripts, and training videos, so the agent answers the way your best person does.

03 / How it is built

Retrieve, then answer. Never guess.

The method is called retrieval-augmented answering. Your sources are indexed, not baked into a model. Each question pulls the passages and live records that match, and the model writes an answer from those and nothing else. That is why updates are instant, why the agent can say "I don't know", and why a handoff carries the evidence with it.

A question retrieves matching passages and live records, the model writes a grounded answer, and the conversation either ends, triggers an action, or is handed to a person with context.WEBSITE · DOCSHELP CENTERCRM · ERP (LIVE)INDEXAGENTANSWERACTIONHANDOFFLIVE LOOKUP AT ANSWER TIMEQUESTION

Table 1. What happens inside the agent, in plain English
QuestionWhat happens
What gets ingested? The sources above are split into passages and indexed. Nothing is copied into a model; the model reads from the index at answer time.
How do updates get in?Change a price, a policy, or a product page and the index is refreshed. There is no retraining step and no downtime. The next question gets the new answer.
How does it answer? It retrieves the few passages that match the question, then writes an answer grounded in those passages. Where it helps, the answer names the page or document it came from.
What does it refuse?Anything the index does not cover. When the retrieved passages do not answer the question, the agent says so and offers a handoff instead of guessing.
How does handoff work? The full transcript, the customer's details, and the records it looked up travel with the conversation to your inbox, help desk, or a live person. Nobody starts from scratch.
Where does the data live?Where your documents, the index built from them, and your transcripts are stored is covered by the Parsimony Chat terms you accept at signup; for a larger deployment it is written into the scope. Read them before you sign.

04 / Capabilities

What it does on the job.

01

Answers first, around the clock

No queue and no hold. The customer gets a grounded answer the moment they ask, at 2 AM on a holiday as readily as at noon on Tuesday.

02

50+ languages, detected automatically

The agent replies in the language the customer wrote in. Your knowledge base can stay in English.

03

Reads live business data

Order status, stock, appointment slots, account balances: pulled from your CRM, ERP, or database at the moment of the question, never from a stale copy.

04

Hands off with context

When a human is needed, the transcript and the looked-up records go with the conversation. Your team picks up mid-sentence.

05

Takes actions, not just messages

Creates the lead, books the call, opens the ticket, sends the tracking link, notifies the right person. Each action is scoped to what you allow.

06

Current without retraining

Update a page, a PDF, or a price and the agent knows on the next refresh. There is no model to rebuild and nothing to redeploy.

Use cases

Three jobs it is usually hired for.

01

Customer support

  • Answer order status and tracking questions on the spot
  • Handle returns, exchanges, and refund requests at any hour
  • Explain product details, compatibility, and sizing
  • Deflect the repeat questions so people handle the exceptions

02

Lead capture

  • Collect contact details from website and WhatsApp chat
  • Qualify with a short, natural conversation
  • Book discovery calls straight onto the calendar
  • Route a hot lead to a salesperson while they are still typing

03

Internal knowledge

  • Turn SOPs and policies into an assistant staff can ask
  • Let employees find answers without interrupting a manager
  • Onboard new hires with a guide that is always available
  • Surface ERP or CRM records in plain language

Ecommerce operators: the order-status and returns conversations are worked through in the AI agents for ecommerce guide.

05 / Channels and systems

One agent on every channel, reading the systems you already run.

A logo wall says nothing about what an integration does. This table does. Read access is for lookups, write access is for actions, and both are scoped per system.

Rollout

From signup to live, in four steps.

  1. 01

Create a Parsimony Chat account at chat.parsimony.com and pick a package. Every package starts with a 15-day free trial.

  2. 02

    Upload and connect

Upload PDF handbooks, FAQs, or product catalogs, or paste your site. The bot maps the content into its knowledge base.

  3. 03

    Test

Ask it the questions your customers ask. When an answer is wrong, fix the source document, not the model; the next answer follows it.

  4. 04

    Embed and go live

Embed it on your website (embeddings are unlimited on every package), then add the voice agent and the channels you use. Larger deployments with custom integrations are scoped separately.

Who builds it

Built by operators. Self-serve by design.

The people who built Parsimony Chat ran ecommerce and distribution businesses before they built software. They know which questions a customer asks at 2 AM, which ones a bot should never answer, and what an ERP record looks like from the warehouse side. That is why setup is upload-and-go and the packages are on the page. When a deployment needs custom integrations or an ERP connection, the same team scopes it; it also runs our managed ERPNext practice, where HumanityNow went live in about two weeks.

07 / Questions

What buyers ask before they sign up.

01

What is an AI chat agent for business?

A chat program that answers customer and staff questions from your own content and systems, takes limited actions such as booking a call or creating a ticket, and hands the conversation to a person when it should. It runs on your website and messaging channels around the clock.

02

How is it different from a chatbot?

A scripted chatbot follows a decision tree you built by hand and breaks the moment a customer asks something off the tree. An AI chat agent reads your knowledge base and live records to answer questions you did not script, and it knows when to stop and hand off.

03

What do we need to upload?

The documents your team already uses to answer questions: PDF handbooks, FAQs, product catalogs, policy pages, or simply your website URL. Most of the work is deciding which questions it should answer and which it should hand off.

04

How long until it is live?

A self-serve agent can be live the day you sign up: upload the documents, test it, embed it. Larger deployments with custom integrations or write actions into an ERP take longer because each integration is tested separately.

05

What happens when it does not know?

It says so and offers a handoff. It is built to answer only from the passages it retrieved, so a question outside your content gets an honest 'I don't have that' rather than a guess.

06

Does it replace our support team?

It takes the repeat questions and the after-hours ones. Your team handles the exceptions and the conversations that need judgment. Read the trade-offs in our guide on AI agents versus hiring before you decide.

07

Where does our data live?

Where your documents, the index built from them, and your transcripts are stored, who can read them, and whether they are used to train anything is covered by the Parsimony Chat terms at signup. For a larger deployment it is written into the scope. If a term is missing, ask before you sign.

08

Is Parsimony Chat self-serve?

Yes. Sign up at chat.parsimony.com, pick a package, and start the 15-day free trial; no scope call. Custom integrations, ERP-connected agents, and white-label at scale are larger deployments, scoped separately.

09

How is it priced?

Kick-Off $97, Growth $197, and Agency $497 a month, each with a 15-day free trial; cancel inside the app. Every package includes a voice agent with free minutes; additional voice minutes bill inside Parsimony Chat. Parsimony Automate, our marketing automation product, has its own public plans from $57 a month.
